Wait or buy now? The big shopping events at a glance
Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday: Which product categories actually get cheaper and when you should buy now instead.

Every year the same question: Is it worth waiting for the next shopping event? The answer depends heavily on the product category.
The dates throughout the year
- Spring sales (March/April): Household, garden, fitness
- Prime Day (usually July): Store brands, smart home, headphones, electronics
- Black Friday / Cyber Monday (end of November): Broadest selection, televisions, gaming, toys
- Christmas season (December): Prices tend to rise, clearance items only after the holiday
What reliably gets cheaper on shopping events
Retailer store brands, smart home accessories, streaming devices and last year's headphones almost always reach their yearly low on these days. Previous-generation televisions are also significantly discounted in November because new models are already on shelves.
What often doesn't get cheaper
Current smartphone generations, gaming consoles during peak demand periods and newly released products hold their price. Waiting rarely helps here, unless you're waiting for the next generation.
The waiting rule
If the shopping event is more than eight weeks away and you need the product now: buy as soon as the price chart shows a low. If the shopping event is in the next two to three weeks, patience pays off, especially for electronics.
Beware of pre-event hype
Many listed prices are raised weeks before shopping events to make the discount look bigger. The price chart exposes this immediately. Our tip: Set yourself a target price beforehand and only buy when it's reached.
